Splatoon Shares Image to Mark Squid Girl Manga's End
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The final chapter of Masahiro Anbe's Shinryaku! Ika Musume (Squid Girl) manga ran in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine on Thursday. The comedy series has garnered many fans, including the staff of Nintendo's Splatoon Wii U shooter game, over its nine year run.
The star of Anbe's series is a squid with poorly-thought-through plans of world domination. She crossed over with Splatoon in official artwork shared by Nintendo while the game's Inklings were drawn by Anbe for Weekly Shōnen Champion and Famitsū magazines.
On Wednesday the official Splatoon Japan Twitter account tweeted an image to the official Weekly Shōnen Champion account to mark the end of Shinryaku! Ika Musume. The tweet says "After nine years of squid research, we'd like sincerely express our thanks."

Fellow manga artist Yukihiro Nakamura (Nemuranai de Tae-chan) also shared an animated .gif of Squid Girl and wrote, "Thank you for your hard work! The magazine [Weekly Shōnen Champion] will be lonely without the cheerful, cute Squid-chan, but I'm looking forward to the last manga volume."
