Japanese Fans Pick Their Favorite Anime Narcissists

posted on by Eric Stimson
A certain sextuplet triumphs

Narcissists may not seem like likable characters, but sometimes they can win fan followings and boost their anime's popularity, whether because of the humor narcissism provides or because their self-absorption underlines how awesome they are. Charapedia, a Japanese anime/manga character database, conducted a survey of 10,000 fans to find out which narcissists were most popular. The survey was carried out from February 18 to 24; it received 63.1% of its responses from women, while 66% of its responses came from people in their 10s and 20s and 34% came from older fans.

Here are the results:

  1. KARAMATSU, Mr. Osomatsu (874 votes)
  2. KEIGO, The Prince of Tennis (526 votes)
  3. HANAWA-KUN, Chibi Maruko-chan (377 votes)
  4. Tōru, Haikyu!! (289 votes)
  5. Suneo, Doraemon (278 votes)
  6. Jinpachi, Yowamushi Pedal (254 votes)
  7. Seiya, Amagi Brilliant Park (239 votes)
  8. Cavendish, One Piece (223 votes)
  9. Ryōta, Kuroko's Basketball (213 votes)
  10. Yashamaru, Nintama Rantaro (192 votes)
  11. Suzuki/Suzuka, Yu Yu Hakusho: Ghost Files (179 votes)
  12. Shū Tsukiyama, Tokyo Ghoul (160 votes)
  13. Shinji, Fate/stay night (154 votes)
  14. Sachiko, The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls (147 votes)
  15. Hosaka, Minami-ke (146 votes)
  16. Yuda, Fist of the North Star (143 votes)
  17. Tamaki, Ouran High School Host Club (128 votes)
  18. Twenty, Tantei Opera Milky Holmes (124 votes)
  19. Yū, Charlotte (117 votes)
  20. Mikorin, Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun (112 votes)

Karamatsu and the sports anime characters were catapulted high on the list thanks to the female vote, but Keigo ranked #2 among both genders. Suneo topped the male fans' ranking.
