Japanese College Students Weigh In on the Best Original Starter Pokémon
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur are back in the limelight for the original Pokémon generation's 20th anniversary. Japan's MyNavi decided to put the highly-contested status of "best starter" to rest by asking 400 college students which Pokémon they choose.
The results were close, but the hot-headed Charmander pulled ahead with 39.3% of the votes. Poll takers argued that fire-type is the most useful in the game and that Charmander is not only the best, but also the cutest and looked the most fun. Second place was Squirtle with 32.5%. It's fans praised how cool Blastoise is, the Pokémon's ability to surf, and general affinity to water-types. Third place was Bulbasaur with 28.2%. Participants thought the plant-meets-dinosaur was cute and that they trusted it to "save me with its vines if I ever fell down somewhere."
Which starter Pokémon do you think is the best? Let us know in the ANN poll!
An upcoming, more official Pokémon poll is being teased on the official website for the Pokémon the Movie XY & Z: Volcanion to Karakuri no Magearna film. The site is hosting a mysterious countdown for the "Pokémon General Election," a name that harkens to AKB48's own annual popularity contest.
The countdown clock is currently at 30 days remaining.
