posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Leiji Matsumoto , the man behind Galaxy Express 999, Star Blazers, and Captain Harlock can add "techno idol costume designer: to his long list of achievements. Matsumoto himself designed costumes for the idol trio Cupitron for their latest single covering the Galaxy Express 999 theme song.

The designs were inspired around the motif of fairies in a digital world.

Cupitron formed in 2014 and includes Saika Hamada, Rina Miyakawa, and Nichika Yamakawa. The group previously signed on to collaborate with DMM's "DMM.make ROBOTS," branch of robo idols.

Cupitron will perform the single live for the first time on April 17 at the Tokyo Dome with Matsumoto in attendance.

Matsumoto previously worked with the music group Daft Punk to create INTERSTELLA 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem series of music videos. Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, the character designer known for Evangelion, FLCL, and other anime, drafted pirate-inspired costumes for idol group Momoiro Clover Z.
