Ghost in the Shell's Tachikoma Inspire Electric Guitar

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Anime News Network's merchandise coverage sponsored by Tokyo Otaku Mode.

The robots of Ghost in the Shell have inspired real-life remakes but the Tachikoma GT might be the first of its kind.

The electric blue headless guitar is a completely original design conceived and handmade by the TC Gakku store in Shinjuku.

The instrument has a built-in EL Neon light board along the neck, the Public Security Section 9 logo at the top, and the robot's bowling ball-like eyes work as the guitar's volume and tone controls. Each guitar costs 756,000 yen (US$7,048) and comes with a serial number and certificate.

The guitar is also on display at the Production I.G store in Shibuya. The store is also displaying the 1/2-size Tachikoma until May 8 and will launch its virtual reality campaign with a three-minute teaser video on May 14-15. Visitors can experience the video using a VR headset.
