Japanese Fans Polled on Favorite Mid-Season Spring 2016 Anime

posted on by Eric Stimson
Winner didn't even appear on "most anticipated" lists

The Japanese anime, manga and video game character database Charapedia conducted a survey of fans' favorite spring 2016 anime a month into the season. (Technically, the question was "Which anime would you like to keep watching next week?") The survey was carried out from April 28 to May 4 and canvassed 10,000 people. 61.1% of the respondents were male; 69.5% were in their 10s and 20s.

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress conquered the top spot with 572 votes. It won praise for its appealing setting, its high-quality art, music and animation, and the unpredictability of its plot. "The first episode gave me goosebumps," one voter opined. Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- won second place with 564 votes; fans appreciated its original setting within the journey-to-another-world genre and were intrigued by the hooks at the ends of each episode. Third place went to Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto with 552 votes. Its fans loved Hikaru Midorikawa's voice work as the protagonist, Sakamoto, and the character's stylishness. "It's the anime I most laugh at this season!" one wrote.
