Yo-kai Watch to Haunt Universal Studios Japan This Summer

Yōkai Watch is returning to Universal Studios Japan in Osaka this summer as the "Universal Yōkai Watch Festival." The main attraction will be Yōkai Watch: The Real, which has visitors walk through a town street searching for hidden Yo-kai with the help of a Yo-kai Pad (map), Yōkai Watch (which alerts the wearer to nearby Yo-kai) and Yo-kai Lens (which allows the Yo-kai to be seen). While Yōkai Watch: The Real premiered in the park last summer, this time it will have an American-style setting to complement the new games, Yōkai Watch 3: Sushi and Tempura.

The new attractions will include Yo-kai Exercise: The Real, where visitors dance along with Yo-kai to the famous Yōkai Watch ending theme, "Yōkai Taisō" (Yo-kai Exercise), and Yo-kai Studio Stars Restaurant, an American-themed restaurant run by Whisper and staffed by other Yo-kai. Visitors can enjoy Western foods like cakes and sandwiches shaped like Yo-kai like Jibanyan and Komasan. There will also be an attraction called Yōkai Watch: The Rally 3, where visitors get a chance to win an exclusive Yo-kai Medal.

The Yōkai Watch Festival is part of Universal Studios Japan's 15th anniversary celebrations and will last from July 1 to September 4. Other anime/manga brands to feature in the park this summer include Dragon Ball Z, One Piece and Death Note. The Dragon Ball Z 4-D film has received a new commercial showcasing Goku locked in furious combat with Freeza, who brags that his power level is "5.3 billion."

The park is currently promoting Neon Genesis Evangelion, Attack on Titan, Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu; read Mike Toole's log of the attractions here.
