Special Adults-Only Aikatsu! Screenings Planned for Shibuya Theater

Director Ryuichi Kimura to attend

Shibuya Toei, a movie theater in Shibuya, Tokyo, will hold three special screenings of the TV anime series Aikatsu! for adults only (ages 18 and above). The bright and shiny idol series is aimed at a young girl demographic, but has attracted a sizeable minority of older fans as well. Since they might feel embarrassed going to a screening with girls less than half their age, the theater has accommodated them. To encourage an idol concert-like atmosphere, cheering and penlights are allowed.

The screenings will take place at 9:00 p.m. and end sometime after 11:00 p.m. on July 15, 22 and 29. Aikatsu! director Ryuichi Kimura personally selected five episodes from the first Aikatsu! series for the screenings: 1, 12, 37, 41 and 50. Kimura and other staff will also hold a discussion before the screenings.

Aikatsu Stars!, a film sequel to the TV series of the same name, premieres on August 13. Its trailer was released on June 30.
