Japanese Fans Pick Cutest Chinese Girls in Anime & Video Games

Classic 1980s character trounces rivals

Hair in double buns, a knack for martial arts, a determination to make her kids study, preferences for qipao (Chinese dress) and ending sentences with "aru" (or er) — if a character has two or more of these traits in anime or Japanese video games, there's a pretty good chance they're supposed to be Chinese. While they may be stereotyped, unrealistic and outdated, many anime fans also find them quite cute, and they have a fan following as a result. To gauge which anime Chinese girls are the cutest, the Japanese fan poll site Goo Ranking conducted a survey of 500 readers, with men and women represented equally. The survey was held between October 20 and 25 and polled those in their 20s and 30s.

Note that many of the characters below are not technically Chinese, but are considered "Chinese girls" anyway for fulfilling the stereotypical attributes.

The results are:

1. SHAMPOO, Ranma ½ (185 votes)
2. KAGURA, Gintama (104 votes)
3. CHI CHI, Dragon Ball (73 votes)
4. Chun Li, Street Fighter (60 votes)
5. Female Ranma, Ranma ½ (50 votes)
6. Tenten, Naruto (40 votes)
7. May Chang, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (27 votes)
8. Eva Ushiromiya, Umineko - When They Cry (25 votes)
9. Lenalee, D.Gray-man (24 votes)
10. Lan-Mao, Black Butler (23 votes)
11. Pao-Lin Huang/Dragon Kid, Tiger & Bunny (22 votes)
12. I-Pin, Katekyo Hitman Reborn! (21 votes)
13. Wang Liu Mei, Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (20 votes)
14. Lynn Minmay, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross (19 votes)
