Automatic Coloring Site Can Colorize Your Manga Drawings
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Manga software developer Taizan unveiled his PaintsChainer automatic coloring software on Twitter on Friday. On the PaintsChainer website, users can upload line drawings that Taizan's software will fill in with color automatically. The creator provided a few examples:
After uploading an image, users provide color hints to tell PaintsChainer where to put which colors. More than one color can be used in the same section of an image, and PaintsChainer will blend and shade the colors to complete the image. After clicking "colorize" the website takes a few minutes to finish the colored image. Light colors and thin lines seem to work best with this demo version of the software.
Twitter users have been posting their own examples:

Could this software lead a new wave of manga and anime creation? Possibly, but it seems more likely that people will continue to use PaintsChainer just for fun at this stage. While waiting for improvements, The Drifting Classroom and Cat Eyed Boy fans might try using the software to fill in Kazuo Umezu's coloring book.
