Osaka-based Voice Actor School in Court for Noise Complaints

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Voice acting office Aoni Production has incurred the wrath of three of its neighbors in a nearby apartment complex. The Mainichi Shimbun reported that three apartment dwellers have filed an injunction against the office's voice actor training school in Osaka District Court claiming that the noise has infringed on their rights to live a peaceful life.

The voice actor training studio is located in the same complex. The first oral arguments were given in court on Wednesday and Aoni Production claimed that the training lessons did not violate the apartment complex's management agreement. According to the complaint, the school occupies four rooms of the 12-story apartment complex near JR Shin-Osaka train station. Two of the four rooms are used for vocal practice.

The residents complained that the noise during the weekends is unbearable when dozens of students gather together. They argue that the management agreement does not allow the space to be used for acting and vocal lessons. Aoni disagrees, stating that vocal exercises are only done for a short time while other lessons produce no more noise than would be expected in daily life. They also explained that dance lessons were moved to a different location in October. They added that there have been no complaints in the past and they aren't violating any regulations.

Tokyo-based Aoni opened Aonijuku Osaka School in 1983. Voice actors like Masaya Onosaka, Ryōtarō Okiayu, Kazuya Nakai, and Wakana Yamazaki have trained there.
