Doraemon 'Anywhere Door' VR Experience Video Previews Antarctic Adventure

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Bandai Namco Entertainment began streaming a promotional video on Friday for the upcoming Doraemon "Dokodemo Door" (Anywhere Door) virtual reality experience. The experience is the latest installment in the company's Project i Can project, which debuted in Odaiba's DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in April.

The Tokyo Solamachi shopping and entertainment complex is collaborating with Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Nankyoku Kachi Kochi Daibōken (Doraemon the Movie 2017: Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi), the 37th film in the Doraemon franchise. In addition to the virtual reality experience, the collaboration features an ice skating rink and cafe.

Bandai Namco Entertainment unveiled the virtual reality experience in December, and it will run from February 20 to April 14. However, it will not run on Tuesdays or from March 18 to March 20. The experience is designed to take users from Nobita's room to the South Pole, the setting of the new film, and will have vibrations, the sensation of wind, and sounds. Visitors must be at least 13 years old to participate in the Anywhere Door experience.

The Tokyo Skytree Town Ice Skate Park collaboration is running from February 4 to March 5. Admission costs 1,600 yen (about US$14) for adults and 900 yen (about US$8) for elementary school students and younger children. A Doraemon high five event was held at the rink on February 5, and a second will be held on February 26.

The Doraemon Kachi Kochi Cafe is offering an original menu inspired by the film from February 4 to May 7. A photo spot with Doraemon and the Anywhere Door is also available as part of Tokyo Solamachi's collaboration.

Nobita and Doraemon already headed to Antarctica to promote the film. The anime film will premiere in Japan on March 4. Doraemon: Nobita to Animal Planet (Doraemon: Nobita and the Animal Planet), the first stage play of Fujiko F. Fujio's classic children's manga, will also return with a new run starting on March 26.

A separate Anywhere Door appeared at a Doraemon cafe in Tokyo in 2013. A fan replica of the Anywhere Door also debuted in Yamanashi Prefecture in 2012.
