School Rumble Theme Singer Yuko Ogura Announces Divorce

33-year-old singer, actress, model, and mother of two Yuko Ogura announced on Sunday that she divorced her husband, 46-year-old hairdresser Isao Kikuchi on March 3. Kikuchi was involved in an extra-marital affair last year while Ogura was pregnant with their second child. Ogura gave birth in November and is returning to work in television where she promised to live strongly as a single mother. The couple had been married five years and five months.
According to officials, the couple has lived separately and discussed divorce, although without retaining a lawyer, since the end of last year. There are no plans for alimony and Ogura will retain custody of both children, ages four and four months. Kikuchi has agreed to pay child support.
Kikuchi's affair came to light last August in an issue of Weekly Bunshun magazine. Kikuchi was spotted with a 26-year-old idol group member who was a junior of Ogura's talent office. Ogura and her older son began staying with an acquaintance after the news was reported. Kikuchi admitted to the affair.
Some magazines reported that Ogura asked for 70 million yen in alimony but official sources have stated that there is no alimony. She has returned to work on the television series Gyōretsu no dekiru Hōritsusōdansho.
Ogura performed the theme songs for School Rumble, School Rumble: Extra Class, and Sgt. Frog and had voice acting roles in Air Master and Prayers. She also worked as a gravure model prior to her marriage.
