Sword Art Online Film Strip Gets US$1,300 Auction Bid

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale is enjoying box office success in Japan, having sold over one million tickets and earning over 1 billion yen (about US$8.8 million). The North American opening weekend this month pulled an additional US$1.35 million. Moviegoers in Japan also get the added bonus of a cut of film, and as is traditional, some are being sold at auction and reaching exorbitant prices.

One strip featuring Asuna and Yūki received over 100 bids in a little more than 24 hours before being sold for 151,000 yen (US$1,342). Another strip from the same scene is currently accepting bids. That auction has reached 51,000 (US$453) yen so far.

A few other auctions have also pulled in a good chunk of change, though pale in light to the Madoka Magica: Rebellion movie title screen strip that garnered 4,102,000 yen or US$41,044. Another Madoka film strip featuring a smiling Madoka sold for 131,000 yen (about US$1,321).

A Yahoo! Auction for a film strip from the first Madoka Magica film drew a winning bid of 1,080,001 yen (about US$13,600). A film strip auction for The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya ended with a 356,000-yen (US$3,990) bid, and a strip from the Macross Frontier: Itsuwari no Utahime film sold for 174,000 yen (US$2,130) in 2010.
