Kyosuke Usuta, Kentaro Yabuki's Manga Awards Offer Chopsticks, Tissues

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Shonen Jump Rookie, a webcomic portal for novice artists, announced its second annual Kyōsuke Usuta (Sexy Commando Gaiden: Sugoi yo!! Masaru-san, Pyu to Fuku! Jaguar) and Kentarō Yabuki (To Love-Ru, Black Cat, Mayoi Neko Overrun!) manga prizes on Friday.

The grand prize winners will each receive 500,000 yen (about US$4,500), a trophy, and publication in Shonen Jump+. In addition, the top winners will receive an extra prize that will be a year's supply of disposable chopsticks for Usuta's award and a year's supply of tissues for Yabuki's award.

The runners up will each receive 100,000 yen (US$900), a trophy, and publication in Shonen Jump+. Honorable mentions will receive 50,000 yen (US$450) each.

Usuta specializes in gag comedy, and Yabuki is known for fanservice harem comedies. Usuta and Yabuki will judge the contests, but they are open to manga of any genre. There is no page limit, but keeping entries within 60 pages long is recommended. Submissions must be previously unpublished one-shot manga.

The entry period for both contests opened on Friday. The entry deadline is October 15 for Usuta's contest and December 15 for Yabuki's contest. Beginning around late August, Shonen Jump Rookie will post submissions online every Friday. The winners of Usuta's contest will be announced in late November or December, followed by the winners of Yabuki's contest in late January or February.
