Man-gatarō Publishes One Piece Parody Manga to Promote New Series

This year's 42nd issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is publishing the first chapter of Man-gatarō's (Gatarō Man) Chin Piece parody manga on Saturday. The chapter, titled "Romance Dawn -Bōken no Yoake," will be the only installment of a series that the magazine suggests is a promotion for an untitled series that Man-gatarō will launch next month.
The Chin Piece manga is a parody of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece manga, and the series' title references Man-gatarō's Chinyūki ~Tarō to Yukai na Nakama-tachi~ manga. The tagline in the image reads, "The time to embark for the unseen sea is now!!!" The image includes parody versions of One Piece characters including Luffy, Nami, and Shanks drawn in Man-gatarō's characteristic style.
The magazine's editorial department published a tongue-in-cheek apology for accidentally publishing the Chin Piece chapter, which it said is part of a discarded manuscript by Man-gatarō. The apology asks readers to look forward to the creator's next work.
On the same page as the apology, the magazine reveals that Man-gatarō's new untitled series will launch on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ website and app on September 25. As a countdown to the launch, Shonen Jump+ will release "legendary one-shot" manga by Man-gatarō every day beginning on Saturday until his new series debuts.
Man-gatarō serialized the Chinyūki ~Tarō to Yukai na Nakama-tachi~ manga in the magazine from 1990 to 1992, and Shueisha published six compiled book volumes. The manga received a four-episode OVA adaptation in 2009 and a live-action film in 2016.
Man-gatarō's unique art debuted on two types of men's underwear in March.
