Voice Actors Akira Ishida, Akira Kamiya to Attend Nerima Anime Carnival

Nerima Anime Carnival is an anime festival organized by various anime-related companies that takes place every fall in Tokyo's Nerima ward. This year's Nerima Anime Carnival will showcase the hit film In This Corner of the World, the anime Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū, and Tatsunoko Production, a prolific anime studio celebrating its 55th anniversary this year. The free event will be held on October 14 and 15 around the north exit of Nerima Station.

The "Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū Rakugo and Anime and Manga Stage" on October 14 will feature appearances by voice actor Akira Ishida, original manga creator Haruko Kumota, and rakugo artists Shiraku Tatekawa and Shirano Tatekawa. Ishida voices the anime's main character Eighth Generation Yakumo Yurakutei (Kikuhiko).
The first season of the Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū anime premiered in January 2016, and the second season, Descending Stories: Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju, debuted in January 2017. Crunchyroll streamed both series. Kodansha Comics licensed Haruko Kumota's original 10-volume manga.
An "In This Corner of the World Film Big Hit Thanks Festival" will be held at the Nerima Anime Carnival on October 14. The event will feature an appearance by director Sunao Katabuchi, who also works as an instructor at the the nearby Nihon University's College of Art in Nerima. The film's producer Taro Maki and Michiko's voice actress Minori Omi will also appear and give a talk as part of the film's one-year anniversary celebration.
Based on Fumiyo Kōno's manga of the same name, the award-winning In This Corner of the World film opened in Japan in November. The film has sold more than two million tickets and earned more than 2.5 billion yen (about US$22.5 million) in Japanese theaters. Shout! Factory and Funimation Films began screening the film in the United States and Canada last month.
On October 15, the Nerima Anime Carnival will host the "Tatsunoko Production 55th Anniversary Special Stage" event. The event will feature screenings and a talk with guests. Anime that Tatsunoko Production has produced include Speed Racer, Casshan, Gatchaman, and PriPara. The company is producing the Infini-T Force CG-animated television series that will premiere on October 3. The series is also getting an animated film in February.
Voice actor Akira Kamiya and the director Akitarō Daichi will appear at the event for "Akira Kamiya and Akitarō Daichi's Arbitrary Project." Kamiya has voiced characters including Ryo Saeba in City Hunter, Kogoro Mouri in Detective Conan, Kenshiro in Fist of the North Star, and Shuutarou Mendou in Urusei Yatsura. Daichi directed the DD Fist of the North Star, Kamisama Kiss, and Fruits Basket anime. The promotional video for the project's first installment, "Robot Kunoichi Mekage-chan," will premiere at the event. An unfinished version of the video is embedded below.
