Dies irae Anime's Giveaway Offers Gigantic Guillotine

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Just in time for Halloween, a new anime is offering fans the ultimate prop fora horror display: a gigantic guillotine. The staff of the television anime adaptation of Light's Dies irae adult visual novel announced on Thursday that it is holding the "world's first" campaign to give away a guillotine.

The guillotine will be 250 centimeters tall (about 98 inches) and weigh about 100 kilograms (about 220 pounds). The frame will be made of wood, and thankfully, the blade will be made of foam.

The campaign to promote the new anime is giving away only one guillotine. The winner will travel to Tokyo to receive the mock execution device from Yui Sakakibara, who voices Marie in the anime and also performs the opening theme song "Kadenz."

For a chance to win, fans must watch all 12 episodes of the anime on AbemaTV and tweet about the show. The giveaway announcement on the anime's official website also states that people who want to win must follow AbemaTV's Twitter account, have room for the guillotine, and be able to travel to Tokyo for the presentation ceremony.

Presentation of the guillotine to the winner is slated for 2018.

The anime series will premiere in Japan at night on Friday, October 6 at 1:05 a.m. (effectively Saturday morning) on Tokyo MX. The anime will also air on BS11 on Monday nights and stream simultaneously on ABEMA TV and other Japanese streaming services. The series will have 18 episodes: 12 that will air on TV and six that will stream online.

Crunchyroll will stream the series worldwide outside of Asia, and Funimation will stream an English dub. Crunchyroll hosted the North American premiere of the first episode at Anime Weekend Atlanta on September 29.
