Sold-Out Mr. Osomatsu Magazine Issue Gets 'Unprecedented' Reprinting

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Both the animated siblings from Mr. Osomatsu and the real-world actors behind their voices are gracing magazine shelves this month in Japan.

Kadokawa Media Factory's book and manga news magazine Da Vinci is getting an "unprecedented" additional printing due to demand. The November issue featuring Mr. Osomatsu voice actors on the cover shipped on October 6 and sold out in stores soon after going on sale. Before the magazine even hit store shelves, the issue began to sell out online within a few hours after information about the cover was released. The new run of the issue is expected to arrive at retail shops in Japan at the end of the month.

Voice actors Takahiro Sakurai (voice of Osomatsu), Yūichi Nakamura (Karamatsu), Hiroshi Kamiya (Choromatsu), Jun Fukuyama (Ichimatsu), Daisuke Ono (Jūshimatsu), and Miyu Irino (Todomatsu) appear on the cover. The issue marks the first time all six Matsuno brother voice actors are appearing on the cover of a magazine together. The issue includes a 42-page feature for the second season of the anime.

Da Vinci sold out of its May 2016 issue thanks to Mr. Osomatsu. The 140,000-copy print run was an Mr. Osomatsu-focused edition with a cover illustration of the six Matsuno brothers by their character designer Naoyuki Asano and interviews with the cast. Pash! magazine enjoyed its highest-ever print run when it featured Mr. Osomatsu in March 2016, and Otomedia and Animage magazines also ordered extra print runs for their Osomatsu features last year.

The animated Matsuno siblings themselves also appear in this week's issue of Kadokawa's Weekly The Television magazine to celebrate the debut of the anime's second season. The issue's "The Osomatsu-vision" "book-in book" features art of the siblings, including a special illustration with them holding the magazine's trademark lemons.

The second season of Mr. Osomatsu premiered on October 5 on TV Tokyo and other stations. Viz Media is streaming the series as it airs in Japan.
