Fans Get 'Fluffy Experience' at Transforming Bishōnen Cat Project's Event Display

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Stray cat overpopulation is a big problem in Japan, largely because many if not most cats are not neutered. That may be one reason why Japanese culture does not shy away from showing, and in some cases even celebrating (see: Pom Poko), testicles on animals. In the latest example, Hakusensha and Takara Tomy's Neko Danshi Nyankee High School multimedia project is showcasing feline testicles in a much-larger-than-life way at Animate Girls Festival 2017 this weekend.

The project's booth at the event is displaying a giant version of main character and high school student Kagetora Chatani in his cat form. The character has his backside facing attendees, and his testicles protrude prominently from his behind. When people press on his testicles, Kagetora (voiced by Taku Yashiro) says one of three phrases and produces a free clear file from underneath his "jewels."

Although the cat high schooler has a smug expression on the display, he seems less than pleased with the awkward petting. In the video below, Kagetora says, "Hey, where are you touching?!"

The official website for the multimedia project teased in September that attendees would be able to have a "fluffy experience" and touch Kagetora in his cat form at the event. However, the site did not reveal that the part of the high-school-boy-turned-cat's body that fans would get to feel would be his private parts.

The event booth is also selling special drama CDs, acrylic slide mirrors, and acrylic stands for the multimedia project. In addition, Yusuke Shirai (voice of Kōsei Kurose) and Seiichirō Yamashita (voice of Chikatarō Manjome) will appear at a stage event on Saturday. Animate Girls Festival 2017 is being held at the Ikebukuro Sunshine City complex in Tokyo on Friday and Saturday.

Remember, everyone, have your (anime) pets spayed and neutered.

The project's story centers on delinquent students at all-male high schools. Once a year, the strongest delinquent students gather for Kenka Fes (Fight Festival) and compete for their school to come out on top. A rumor is spreading that Karikari Academy, a regular participant, is withdrawing from this year's competition. After hearing the news, other high schools begin to drop out. It looks like this year's event will be cancelled. However, one reckless delinquent is determined persevere and do whatever it takes to enter the festival.

Kagetora Chatani attends Matatabi High School, known within the prefecture for its idiots. He goes to pick a fight at Karikari Academy. On the way, he takes care of a cat who was abandoned on the street in cardboard. Chatani arrives at the school and tells the leader of the delinquents, Kōsei Kurose, that if he beats him in a fight, their school will also have to enter the festival competition. After taking a strong hit, Chatani suddenly turns into a cat. Kurose also turns into a cat, and according to him, the same phenomenon is happening at other high schools. The schools were dropping out of the festival because no one wants to expose the truth. Nevertheless, Chatani is unfazed and remains as determined as ever to compete.

Yuki Shibamiya is illustrating a manga for the project, and it is serializing in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine. LINE messaging app accounts for the characters allow fans to communicate with AI versions of the characters.
