Pay US$1,800 for Kemono Friends' Mewhan Concert Ticket With Photo

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Japanese singer-songwriter Mewhan, who performed Kemono Friends' ending theme song "Boku no Friend" (My Friend), is holding her first solo concert "Yodare Mamire" on November 26. Tickets at several price levels are available for the concert, but some fans are raising their eyebrows at the bonuses that come with the priciest tickets.

The highest "pet owner" ticket level costs 200,000 yen (about US$1,800) and includes receiving a large paper lantern (seen below) with the fan's name handwritten by Mewhan after displaying it at the concert, a "pet owner" key holder and large cushion shaped like Mewhan's mascot cat Mauhan, and the right to take a commemorative photograph on the concert's stage after the event ends. The website notes that up to one other person may appear with the ticket holder in the photo, but Mewhan herself will not appear in the pictures.

The exorbitant price for fairly modest bonus items with the top-level tickets is baffling some online commenters. One net user remarked that there must be an extra "0" in the listed price, and others scoffed that a "commemorative photograph" would not include the artist herself. It seems that most fans agree 200,000 yen is a lot to ask for a regular concert ticket and a photo, possibly taken next to some lanterns.

The other types of tickets come at more reasonable prices. Advance tickets cost 5,000 yen (US$44), and same-day tickets cost 5,500 yen (US$48). A ticket with a small lantern with the attendee's name handwritten by Mewhan costs 10,000 yen (US$88). A ticket with a similar medium-sized lantern and Mauhan cushion costs 50,000 yen (US$440). Everyone who purchases a ticket with a lantern to be displayed at the concert will be able to take the lantern home after the event. None of the ticket levels feature better seats, and fans choose from the same pool of available seats for all tickets. Also, drinks are not included at every ticket level.

The "Yodare Mamire" concert will be held at the Akasake Blitz venue in Tokyo on November 26. Advance ticket sales began in September, and regular ticket sales began on Saturday.

Mewhan's debut mini album Jiko Sukiima, which features the Kemono Friends ending theme, ranked on the list of top-selling anime music CDs in Japan in the first half of 2017.
