Man Who Dumped 585 AKB48 CDs Ordered to Pay 400,000 Yen

A prosecutor in Fukuoka issued a summary indictment on Tuesday for the 32-year-old man charged last month with illegally dumping 585 AKB48 CDs on a mountain. According to the summary order, the man must pay a 400,000-yen (about US$3,500) fine.
The man was charged for illegally dumping the CDs at a mountain in the city of Dazaifu in June. Reportedly, a different man in Chiba originally bought the CDs to impact an AKB48 voting event. After inputting about 1,000 CD serial numbers, he asked fellow fans in Kyushu to input the remaining roughly 600 numbers. These fans took up his request, but one man reportedly dumped about 11 cardboard boxes of CDs at the mountain.
Locals discovered the litter, and authorities were eventually able to track down the man who dumped the CDs. He may have dumped the CDs because second-hand shops often refuse to purchase more than two of the same product from a single person to avoid acquiring stolen goods.
Current HKT48 member and former AKB48 member Rino Sashihara commented on the incident earlier this month. Sashihara said she was shocked and wished fans would enjoy the music rather than purchasing CDs solely for the bundled tickets.
