Animate Times Readers Countdown 2017's Top 50 Anime Series

The website Animate Times polled its readers to find out the best anime of 2017. In a year dubbed a good harvest for anime fans, narrowing down hundreds of shows to a top 10, 20, or even 50 is a difficult task. There was plenty that stood out, and Anime News Network's critics will have their own countdown posted soon. When it comes to readers in Japan though, the picks are a bit surprising. Action titles, with the exception of juggernauts Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia, were mostly absent from the top 10. The slow-burning ACCA managed to crack in at #7 and this season's The Ancient Magus' Bride and Gintama. also climbed to the top. Western favorite Made in Abyss, meanwhile, didn't rank at all.

Animate Time's poll skewed heavily towards female viewers (81.6%) and a younger demographic where 40.9% were 19 or younger and 24.7% were between the ages of 20-24.
