Graffiti Transforms Former Nazi Stronghold Into Dragonball's Shenron

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

A structure with a dark past was re-purposed into a symbol of fortune on the beaches of Normandy. Two French graffiti artists transformed a Nazi blockhaus into the dragon Shenron from Dragon Ball Z. The artists Blesea and Baby.K previously painted one of fortifications into a Star Wars ship and Darth Vadar before taking on this challenge.

The Shenron art is located near The Goeland 1951 bar on Jonville beach. In its former life, the blockhaus (also known as a casemate) served as fortified gun housing used by German troops to fire upon the Allied forces as they stormed the beach on June 6,1944. While some are used as important monuments, like on Utah Beach or Arromanches-les-Bains, both of which are homes to museums, the Shenron blockhaus is completely abandoned.

Since its transformation, Shenron has appeared in le Parisien newspaper and gaining further recognition. Blesea and Baby.K stated that they hope the art will give parents an opportunity to discuss the war with their children.
