Which Voice Actors Are Dominating the Winter 2018 Season?

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The latest season of new anime is dropping daily, but have you found yourself noticing a trend, like some of the characters from Slice of Life #542 sounds just like characters from Romantic Comedy #173? There might be a reason for that. Animate Times took a look at this season's cast list and figured out just who is appearing in the most new shows.

At the top of the women's list is Kaede Hondo, who is appearing in six different series. This is impressive, given that her debut as Kokoro Yotsuba in Kami-sama Minarai: Himitsu no Cocotama was barely three years ago. This season she's starring as Rin Tamaki in A Place Further Than the Universe, protagonist Kanami Etō in Katana Maidens: Toji no Miko, Coleen Messala in Record of Grancrest War, Midori Sawatari and Yuki Ushimaru in School Babysitters, Ariko Kasumi in Märchen Mädchen, and multiple voices in Mitchiri Neko. She's also signed on next season's Comic Girls and Hinamatsuri.

The men's list's forerunner is Tomoaki Maeno, a seasoned performer for the last 10 years. This winter he's voicing characters in seven different anime, with roles in Citrus, School Babysitters, Yowamushi Pedal Glory Line, Dame×Prince Anime Caravan, Koi wa Ameagari no You ni, Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens, Hakyū Hōshin Engi, and The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. He's also appearing in next season's time-traveling butler show Butlers: Chitose Momotose Monogatari and the Shōji Kawamori helmed Jūshinki Pandora.

Hondo and Maeno may be at the top, but they're not far ahead. Yūichi Nakamura (Mitchiri Neko , Record of Grancrest War, Yowamushi Pedal Glory Line, Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens, Hakyū Hōshin Engi, Killing Bites) is appearing in six shows and voice actresses Sora Amamiya, Ayane Sakura, Saori Hayami, and M.A.O are each appearing in five shows.

Have you noticed similar voices in the series' you've watched so far or do you seek out shows that have your favorite VA?
