Watch Koge Donbo* Draw Cute Art to Celebrate Di Gi Charat's 20th Anniversary
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
A long, long time ago in year 1998, the Di Gi Charat characters debuted in a magazine to promote the Gamers retail store in Akihabara. The creator was Koge-Donbo* and the characters' popularity led to Dejiko becoming an official mascot for the store. Their success also led to the premiere of a short-form anime series in 1999 followed by tons of specials and spin-offs.
Di Gi Charat's heyday has come and gone but fans still remember the silly adventures of Dejiko, Rabi~en~Rose, and Puchiko. This of course includes their original creator Koge-Donbo*, who drew a new piece of artwork on Sunday to celebrate the series' 20th anniversary.

The finished art shows Puchiko, aka Petit Chara.

Since Di Gi Charat ended, Donbo* found love with a Japan Ground Self-Defense Force officer, married, and gave birth to their first child. She chronicled this events in her autobiographical manga Yomesan wa Moe Mangaka and Mamasan wa Moe Mangaka. She was a guest at California's Kintoki Con in 2013. She currently teaches at Kyoto Seika University.
