Tatsuki Confused as 'Keifuku-san' Short Tops Amazon's Best Seller Lists

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

TATSUKI's "Keifuku-san" short has topped not only Amazon Japan's anime DVD best seller list, but also the site's entire DVD best seller list. The director was clearly not expecting such an accomplishment for the five-minute short. He tweeted on Wednesday, "Huh, what is this, Amazon? A bug?" Despite his surprise, TATSUKI also thanked people who have pre-ordered the anime DVD.

The DVD costs 3,400 yen (about US$31), and it will ship in Japan on February 5.

The Kemono Friends director posted the full version of the short in December. TATSUKI previously posted the first two parts of the short.

The three-person independent animation group irodori — which also includes Kemono Friends art director Yūko Shiromizu and Kemono Friends animation director Yoshihisa Isa — also began streaming a promotional video for the new "Hentatsu" anime on Wednesday. The video features what appears to be a location from "Keifuku-san." The location resembles a giant Shinto shrine in the sky that functions as a station.

TATSUKI reported in September that, per a notification from publishing and production company Kadokawa, he is no longer working on the Kemono Friends project. Soon after, the anime's official website announced that the studio Yaoyorozu would no longer be involved. Producer Yoshitada Fukuhara confirmed in December that Yaoyorozu will not return for the planned second season.
