Although the Code Geass anime can be deeply serious, a new collaboration is adding cutesy flare to franchise merchandise. The company behind Hello Kitty and all her friends revealed collaboration designs and merchandise on Wednesday.
Advance sales of the merchandise will begin at the "Code Geass - Hangyaku no Lelouch-ten" exhibit that will be held at Tokyo Dome City Gallery AaMo from February 3-12. The goods available for purchase will include two varieties of stand mirrors for 1,300 yen (about US$12), two varieties of hair scrunchies for 1,100 yen (about US$10), five varieties of tin badges for 500 yen (about US$5), and two varieties of T-shirts for 3,000 yen (about US$27).
Regular sales for the items are planned for after the exhibit ends.
The original Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion television anime series premiered in Japan in 2006, while Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 premiered in 2008. The Adult Swim network aired both series in North America in 2008. Bandai Entertainment released both seasons on home video in North America before it stopped offering new DVD, Blu-ray Disc, and manga releases in 2012. Funimation announced its license of the series in 2013.
The series is receiving a compilation film trilogy, and the third film is slated to open in Japan in May. The franchise is also receiving a sequel project titled Code Geass: Fukkatsu no Lelouch (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection). The format of the sequel has not yet been revealed.
