The city of Chiba, Chiba Prefecture is collaborating with the Fist of the North Star franchise to mark the 900th birthday of Chiba clan founder Chiba Tsunetane. The project also celebrates the 35th anniversary of the franchise.
The North Star was an important symbol for the Chiba clan. Through the Hokushin Shinkō religion, which deified the North Star as the bodhisattva Myōken, the star helped to connect the various branches of the family scattered throughout Japan. The North Star and the rest of the Big Dipper constellation also have a key role in the Fist of the North Star story. Therefore, the collaboration celebrates the celestial connection between the Chiba clan and franchise.
For the first part of the collaboration, digital signage with the project's visual began appearing on two 70-inch screens inside Chiba's JR Kaihimmakuhari Station on Sunday. The promotion will run until March 31, 2019. Various projects for the collaboration are planned to debut in the coming year while the visual is on display.
