Sword Art Online's Asuna is This Year's Anime June Bride

Are you familiar with the term "June Bride?" It's a long-standing tradition to get married in the month of June as it was at one time thought it was especially auspicious for the couple's future happiness. A lot of it had to do with when people bathed in medieval times. Despite the advent of household plumbing, the tradition stays and Asuna and Kirito are just the latest couple to tie the knot for an early summer wedding.
New merchandise, including a large tapestry of the happy couple, is going on sale on June 21. The new artwork shows Kirito and Asuna glowing with happiness on their wedding day. The tapestry costs 4,000 yen (US$38).
If you want to toast to your favorite couple's future happiness, a pair of glasses featuring Kirito and Asuna inscribed in gold will also go on sale for 2,000 yen (US$19).
The artwork is also featured on a smartphone case (3,500 yen/US$33), book cover (800 yen/US$7.50), acrylic standees (1,200 yen/US$11), clear files (350 yen/US$3.25), and can badges (600 yen/US$5.50).
Sword Art Online, its lead characters Kirito and Asuna, and its soundtrack topped last year's Newtype Awards. The Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale anime film has earned 4.3 billion yen (about US$38.2 million) in worldwide sales. A television anime adaptation of the light novel's Alicization arc is set to premiere in October. Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online, a spin-off based on the virtual reality game seen in Sword Art Online II, is currently airing in Japan and streaming on Crunchyroll.
