Made in Abyss Creator Designs 3DCG Character for VR Company

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Akihito Tsukushi, the original creator of the critically acclaimed Made in Abyss anime series, designed a brand-new character to appear in a whole new kind of world. The cat-like character Mokuri was designed for the virtual reality corporation HIKKY.

Tsukushi works as a character designer for the company outside of his manga duties. Mokuri is planned as part of the company's overall "Mokuri Project" with art director Emika Sawa. Currently the plan is to release Mokuri as a 3DCG avatar, but more details including a finalized design and release date, will be announced later.

The first Made in Abyss 13-episode anime series premiered in Japan last July. Sentai Filmworks licensed the series. The show streamed in the United States on Amazon's Anime Strike service, and HIDIVE streamed the series outside of the United States. The series will get two compilation films this winter and production on a sequel is underway. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga and released the second volume on April 24.
