Twitter User Reimagines Trump, Kim as Pop Team Epic's Leading Duo
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
A highly anticipated and historic meeting between Donald Trump, president of the United States, and Kim Jong-un, leader of North Korea, took place on Tuesday in Singapore. People around the world hope that the summit will encourage North Korea's reportedly planned denuclearization and lead to peaceful relations between the nations. As such, the Internet sought to memify the situation.
Twitter user @M6G9N seems to have seen a resemblance between Pop Team Epic's tall girl Pipimi, short girl Popuko, and the two world leaders in a photo from their summit. The Twitter user posted images on Tuesday of Trump and Kim reimagined in Pop Team Epic style.

The text on the final image reads, "Hey! Hey! You mad? You got mad. Summit's cancelled."
Although the connection between Trump, Kim, Pipimi, and Popuko is merely superficial, the high-profile men have other connections to Japan's world of pop culture. Kim has been described as a manga fan. Mobile Suit Gundam character designer Yoshikazu Yasuhiko drew both Trump and Kim in a political cartoon that appeared on the cover of a financial magazine in December. Trump has also appeared alone in various manga and anime since his election to the presidency in 2016, and the depictions are largely unflattering.
