Ribon Magazine Honors Momoko Sakura With Chibi Maruko-chan Booklet

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The November issue of Shueisha's Ribon magazine will bundle a special booklet as a memorial feature on Chibi Maruko-chan's late creator Momoko Sakura. The issue will ship on October 3, and the booklet will be titled "Arigatō" (Thank You).

The booklet will feature the first chapter of the Chibi Maruko-chan series, "Occhan no Mahō Cards no Maki" (The Old Man's Magic Cards Volume), and the 132nd and most recent chapter that Ribon published, "Zenzen Shiranai Oyaseki no Hito no Maki" (Relative I Don't Know at All Volume; title page seen above). The most recent chapter has yet to be published in a compiled book volume.

The magazine's upcoming issue will also have a double cover, and one cover will feature Chibi Maruko-chan.

Sakura passed away on August 15 due to breast cancer. Sakura's friends and colleagues in the entertainment industry have shared their thoughts on her death.

Sakura serialized the Chibi Maruko-chan manga in Ribon from 1986 to 1996. The comedy manga, which follows the everyday life of a third-grade schoolgirl, has about 32 million copies in print.
