Crows Manga's Tribute Project Continues With Fist of the North Star: Strawberry Flavor Crossover

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Akita Shoten's Monthly Shōnen Champion magazine published the fifth part of the new "Crows Respect" tribute project for Hiroshi Takahashi's Crows manga on Thursday. The manga, titled "Hokuto no Ken: Ichigo Aji x Crows II," is a crossover with Yūshi Kawata and Yukito Imōto's Hokuto no Ken: Ichigo Aji (Fist of the North Star: Strawberry Flavor) manga, and it is the fifth part of the tribute project.

In the manga, Fist of the North Star: Strawberry Flavor's Holy Emperor Souther transfers into Crows' Hōsen Academy, and other characters from Fist of the North Star: Strawberry Flavor also appear. Souther previously appeared in the "Crows St. Emperor" part of the "Crows Respect" project from 2016.

Yukai Asada's "Karasu no Rock 'n' Roll" (Crows' Rock 'n' Roll) will be the next part of the tribute project and debut in the magazine's November issue on October 6. Other creators involved in the project include Tetsuhiro Hirakawa, Shingo Honda, Toshio Ozawa, Dai Suzuki, Masayuki Saiwaki, Shinsuke Takahashi, Hikaru Araki, and Satoshi Fujiwara.

Takahashi's Crows manga ran for 26 volumes, and Digital Manga Publishing partially published its sequel manga Worst in English. Crows also inspired a two-episode anime OVA adaptation, the 1994 Kōkō Butō Den Crows.

The manga inspired three live-action films, with Takashi Miike directing the first two films, Crows Zero and Crows Zero II. Crows Explode, the third film, opened in Japan in April 2014. Tokyo Shock released the first film on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in North America, and video label MVM released both Crows Zero and Crows Zero II in the United Kingdom.

The live-action films, in turn, inspired manga adaptations. The Crows Explode manga launched in October.

The first "Crows Respect" tribute project featured eight one-shots from various manga creators, and these one-shots were collected in a compiled book volume that Akita Shoten published in June 2016.
