Non Non Biyori Film Gets Staff Commentary Screening

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Non Non Biyori Vacation, the anime film of Atto's Non Non Biyori manga is opening to a wider theatrical release in Japan after topping the mini-theater rankings. One of those new screenings will offer a behind-the-scenes experience for viewers who have already enjoyed the film.

Kadokawa Cinema Shinjuku in Tokyo will screen a staff commentary version of Non Non Biyori Vacation on September 24. The screening will include comments by director Shinya Kawatsura, producer Shinpei Yamashita, and composer Hiromi Mizutani in person.

The film tells the story of the "Okinawa Trip Arc" from Atto's original manga. Anime News Network's Kim Morrissy describes the story:

Summer vacation is drawing to an end. When Suguru wins a free trip to Okinawa, all of the five students of Asahigaoka branch school are excited to end their vacation with a bang. Along with Hikage, Konomi, and their teacher and the candy store owner, everyone goes to Okinawa for a fun three-day trip. There, Natsumi makes friends with Aoi, the girl who helps out at the hotel they stay in.

The film originally opened on August 25 in Japan in 27 theaters. The main cast and staff returned from the previous two television anime seasons for the film. nano.RIPE returned for the film's opening theme song "Ao no Rakugaki." Kotori Koiwai, Rie Murakawa, Ayane Sakura, and Kana Asumi performed the ending theme song "Omoide" (Memories) as their respective characters.

The manga takes place in the countryside, where the nearest bookstore is 20 minutes away by bicycle, a certain "Ju_p" magazine comes out on Wednesdays instead of Mondays, and the video rental store is 10 stations away. Hotaru Ichijō transfers from Tokyo to this school and readjusts to the slow life in the country. Her fellow schoolmates are Natsumi, Komari, Renge, and Komari's big brother Suguru in the third year of middle school.
