Actress, Former AKB48 idol Atsuko Maeda Welcomes 1st Child

Former AKB48 idol Atsuko Maeda welcomed her first child recently, according to the actress' agency. Maeda (27) and her husband, actor Ryo Katsuji (32), married at the end of July. According to Maeda's agency, she is stable and recovering from the child's birth.

Maeda commented through Ota Production that she plans to continue working so long as her physical condition allows it. She apologized for the inconvenience and thanked everyone for their support.

Maeda and Katsuji announced their marriage on July 30. They met through mutual friends and found themselves attracted to each other's personalities and began dating with the intention of marriage.

Maeda graduated from the AKB48 idol group in 2012. Her first lead role was in Hana Zakari no Kimi-tachi e ~Ikemen Paradise, a television adaptation of Hisaya Nakajo's Hana Zakari no Kimi-tachi e (Hana-Kimi) shōjo school romance manga in 2011. She also starred in the live-action film adaptation of Natsumi Iwasaki's Moshi Kōkō Yakyū no Joshi Manager ga Drucker no "Management" o Yondara (Moshidora) novel that same year. She voiced the Beckoning Cat in the live-action adaptation of Kami-sama no Iu Toori in 2014 and most recently starred as screenwriter Mari Okada in the adaptation of her autobiography on September 1.

Katsuji has worked as both a live-action and voice actor. He appeared as Kenichi "Funny Face" Ogisu in the live-action Crows Explode film and voiced Kōtarō Yuda in The Case of Hana & Alice anime film. Most recently he starred as Shige Shige Tokugawa in the second live-action Gintama film.
