Newly-wed manga creator Inio Asano will get his first ever art exhibition celebrating 20 years worth of work since his debut. The "20th Anniversary Commemoration Exhibition: The World of Inio Asano ~Ctrl+T2~" will kick off on December 21 at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Tokyo.
The exhibition is Asano's first of this magnitude and will feature everything from the artist's manuscripts to art from his most popular works like Solanin and Goodnight Punpun. Clothing samples that the manga characters wear will also go on display.
The event organizers explained that the "Ctrl+T2" in the event's title is a reference to the keyboard hotkey "Ctrl+T," the shortcut for the Transform function in PhotoShop. The hotkey is the one that "best represents" Asano as it is the one he uses the most while working. Ctrl+T was the title of Asano's art book released in 2010, so this exhibit's title adds "2" to indicate it is the sequel.
Asano made his debut in 1998 in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits Zokan Manpuku! with the manga Kikuchi Sore wa Chotto yari Sugida!!. He won the GX Newcomer Award in 2001 for Uchū kara Kon'nichiwa in Monthly Sunday GX. His first serialized manga followed the next year, Subarashii Sekai.
Asano married fellow manga creator Akane Torikai last month.
