Kirin Beverage Celebrates 40 Years of Soccer Tournaments in 1-Minute Anime Ad
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Kirin Beverage has never shied away from mixing its drinks with pop culture, although not every attempt has been a hit. Its latest animated ad is focusing on soccer, specifically the company's role as an official sponsor of the Japan Football Association and the Kirin Challenge Cup 2018. Kirin Brewery has sponsored the Kirin Cup since 1978 and this year marks the company's 40th anniversary as a sponsor.
The ad opens with real pro soccer player Shinji Kagawa scoring a goal as a child watches on TV. The new animated ad focuses on a theme of "succession" as excitement from the sport is passed on from parent to child.
Japan's Samurai Blue team claimed a win against Panama in its Kirin Cup match on October 13. The team went on to face FIFA's #5 ranked team, Uruguay, on October 16. Samurai Blue again pulled ahead with a 4-3 victory. Samurai Blue's next match will be against the Venezuela National Team on November 16 followed by Kyrgyz Republic National Team on November 20. Check out the Japan vs Panama and Japan vs Uruguy highlights in the videos below.
