Goku's voice actress Masako Nozawa said at a stage event for Dragon Ball Super: Broly on Saturday that the film is the most interesting in the series yet. She said that as soon as the final lines were recorded, she told the staff that it was the best film yet, and that she hopes that it will be loved by everyone.
The stage event was also attended by voice actors Ryo Horikawa (Vegeta), Ryusei Nakao (Frieza), Bin Shimada (Broly), Nana Mizuki (Cheelai), Tomokazu Sugita (Lemo), and director Tatsuya Nagamine, who shared Nozawa's enthusiasm for the film. Shimada said, "All of the previous works have had various battles that would make Saiyans proud. This film has battle scenes, of course, but I hope you can also see the pure side of Broly."
Photos from the Los Angeles premiere the day before were also shown at the event. Nozawa was delighted to see that the American audience appeared satisfied with the film. She said that she wanted the whole world to look at Goku. "I wish I could yell out 'Ha!' as Goku and light the Olympic Flame for the 2020 Olympics," she remarked.
The cast also talked briefly about their hopes for future installments. Nakao said that it has been 23 years since Gogeta last appeared in a Dragon Ball film, and next time he would like to see his own character Frieza do a fusion.
Dragon Ball Super: Broly will open in the United States and Canada on January 16. Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama wrote the script and designed the characters. The film topped the box office in its opening week in Japan, earning more than 1,050,000,000 yen (about US$9.26 million) in its first three days. Toei stated it anticipates the film will earn more than 5 billion yen (about US$44 million).
The film's story takes place after the events of the Dragon Ball Super television anime. The Dragon Ball Super manga is skipping the film's story, but a novel adaptation of the film shipped in Japan on Friday.
