To Love-Ru's Kentaro Yabuki Draws Daring Hatsune Miku for Honda Collaboration

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Manga artist Kentarō Yabuki drew his rendition of virtual idol Hatsune Miku for a collaboration between Honda and Dwango on Wednesday. Yabuki is the co-creator of the fanservice heavy To Love-Ru manga series and he couldn't help but get a bit cheeky with his version of Miku.

Yabuki's draft design accentuates Miku's backside

The design is for both companies' osoba project, a smartphone application starring Hatsune Miku. The app acts as drive along buddy that interacts with the driver based on what the car is doing. Yabuki's artwork will be used for an itasha wrap on a Honda S660 sports car and as a costume design for cosplayer Enako. Both the car and Enako will be at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2019 event at Makuhari Messe in Chiba on January 11-13.

Yabuki added that when he was approached to work on the design, organizers reminded him Miku will appear on public roads as a nudge to keep her costume exposure low. Yabuki obliged while trying to mesh themes of "selflessness" and "future" into something cute. Still, he couldn't help but add a touch of himself to the design: Miku is covered by a jacket but Yabuki still made it transparent.

The osoba app will debut next month and the streaming service Nico Nico Douga will livestream a launch event for the app on January 7.
