Yakuza House-Husband Manga Gokushufudo Wins Pixiv Comic Ranking 2018

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Categories include overall best manga, fantasy, animal, romance, drama, more themes

The website Pixiv Comic is the host of tons of web manga series and a great place for readers to check out something new or follow-up on a popular title. The site's Pixiv Comic Ranking is meant to honor the series with the most popularity growth each year. The site breaks down the titles as an overall top 10 and in individual genres like fantasy, romance, animals, comedy, drama, slice-of-life, and boys-love.

This year's top manga in both the overall and comedy categories is Gokushufudo by Kōsuke Oono. The manga follows a retired yakuza member known as "Immortal Tatsu" who is living out his post-crime career as a house husband. He still manages to find his way into trouble from time to time, except it's in the grocery aisle instead of some back alley. Oono publishes the series on Kurage Bunch and it was previously acknowledged as a runner-up in this year's Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Awards' web manga category and came in at #9 in this year's Web Manga General Election. The Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook for 2019 ranked Gokushufudo as #8 for its top manga series for men.

The comedy duo Penguins appeared in a promotional video to accept the award as the manga's main yakuza pair.
