Light Novel About Sex Slave Cancelled After Author's Heated Tweets Against Illustrator

'I Chose to Leave Because I Was Threatened with Expulsion from the Party Unless I Became the Sex Slave of the Female Hero' will receive no further releases beyond volume 2.

Light novel publisher Dash X Bunko announced on February 22 that the I Chose to Leave Because I Was Threatened with Expulsion from the Party Unless I Became the Sex Slave of the Female Hero (Onna yūsha ni jibun no seidorei ni naranai to party wo tsuihō suru to odosareta no de ridatsu wo sentaku shimasu) series has been cancelled after the author Nozomi Ginyoku reportedly insulted the illustrator Monety on Twitter.

Dash X Bunko released a statement on Twitter saying that there will be no further releases beyond volume 2, which was also published on February 22. The planned manga adaptation has also been halted.

Dash X Bunko identified "the author's inappropriate statements on social media" as the cause behind the cancellation. In this particular instance, Nozomi Ginyoku wrote insulting tweets about Monety. The publisher said that the author has been known to attack others on Twitter in the past, and that they felt it was necessary to take disciplinary action.

Ginyoku released an apology to Monety on Twitter on February 15, saying that they had misunderstood what Monety had tweeted earlier and had unduly taken offense. As a result, Ginyoku wrote insulting tweets about Monety on their sub-account and then retweeted it on their main account. Ginyoku wrote: "There is no excuse for the awful and vile statements that I made."

Ginyoku has since deleted every other tweet from their account, making it unclear what exactly they said, or what even was the cause for the outburst.

Twitter users have speculated that the trigger for Ginkyoku's initial angry tweets was a tweet Monety made on February 9, saying, "I think it's around time for me to draw a rape manga. After drawing so many illustrations that don't push the envelope, I've been getting backed up." Monety also wrote in a reply: "I get bored of just drawing 'safe' ero illustrations." It is thought that Ginyoku interpreted these tweets to mean that Monety had a low opinion of the light novel itself.

Volume 1 of I Chose to Leave Because I Was Threatened with Expulsion from the Party Unless I Became the Sex Slave of the Female Hero was first published in November 2018. The second volume of the series shipped on February 22, the same day Dash X Bunko formally announced the series' cancellation.

The story follows a 12-year-old boy named Rem who chooses to leave the party after the female hero orders him to be her sex slave. Rem returns to his hometown but is betrayed by those he thought he trusted. He wanders into a labyrinth and releases a girl named Alicia from a seal. However, after being released from the seal, Alicia calls Rem her "master," and the two form a sex slave contract.
