Sword Art Online Storms the Castle in Fukuoka

Kirito, Asuna, and Alice are taking over Kokura Castle in Kitakyushu in Fukuoka prefecture. A collaboration illustration shows the trio in period clothing dressed as historical figures Miyamoto Musashi, Sasaki Kojirō, and Hosokawa Gracia. All three historical figures are in ways tied to Kokura Castle.
Kirito was chosen to represent Musashi because both are known for dual wielding swords.
The collaboration project was decided to promote the reopening of Kokura Castle. The collaboration project will be carried out from March 30 to May 6 with the sale of limited goods, a photo spot, and a two-day stage show to celebrate the blooming cherry blossoms. The Sakura Festival will include Kirito and Asuna cosplayers in official costumes.
Kokura Castle was built in 1602 but later suffered fire damage in 1837 followed by renovations 1839 only to be burnt down again during a war between rivaling clans in 1866. The castle continued to be rebuilt and served as a military base prior to being completely restored in 1990. Kokura Castle is now a museum and historical site for visitors.
