posted on by Kim Morrissy

On Sunday, television broadcasting company Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS) said goodbye to the Heisei era in its early MBS Anime Festival. The event, called "MBS Anime Historia: Heisei," featured voice actors and music groups associated with over a dozen iconic anime series from the Heisei era holding live performances and acting out lines. The festival was not preserved as a DVD or livestreamed, making the entire event a one-night only special.

The 18 series represented are as follows:

  • Code Geass
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-blooded Orphans
  • SSSS.Gridman
  • Mobile Suit Gundam Seed
  • Puella Magi Madoka Magica
  • JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
  • Black Butler
  • Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic
  • Mobile Suit Gundam 00
  • Haikyuu!
  • Angel Beats!
  • Kuroko's Basketball
  • Big Windup!
  • Kaguya-sama: Love is War
  • Attack on Titan
  • Macross Frontier
  • The Seven Deadly Sins
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion
  • MBS's twitter account got a workout this weekend, posting photos of the voice casts and performers who came together for the festival.

The Heisei era is the current period according to the traditional Japanese calendar, which is based on the reign period of the emperor. The Heisei period started on January 8, 1989, the day after the death of the Showa Emperor Hirohito, and will end on April 30, 2019 (Heisei 31), the date which Emperor Akihito is expected to abdicate the Chrysanthemum Throne.
