Sarazanmai Anime's Sushi Joke is a Real Collaboration

Pick up some kappamaki at participating stores

It was bound to happen with one of the many pranks pulled yesterday but I didn't place my bets on the Sarazanmai sushi collaboration. Ikuhara's latest anime series was re-invented to center around sushi chefs instead of supernaturally transformed kappa boys on April 1. It turns out that Sarazanmai sushi is a real thing, at least for the next two months.

Eight railway station shops in Tokyo will sell "Sushizanmai" pre-made sushi boxes including the shops at Asakusa Kaminarimon, Ikebukuro east exit, Higashi Shinjuku, Shinjuku east exit, Shibuya Higashiguchi, the Shibuya Tokyu main store front, Shibuya Dogenzaka center building, and Akihabara Showa Dori shops. Customers that purchase the sushi set will receive one of six random place mats.

The sushi set includes six kappamaki (cucumber rolls), uni (sea urchin), unagi (eel), and three types of fish nigiri.

The Sarazanmai anime series will premiere on April 11. MAPPA is animating the series with director Kunihiko Ikuhara (Revolutionary Girl Utena, Penguindrum) and scriptwriter Teruko Utsumi.
