Watch Fairy Tail Creator Hiro Mashima Draw Kirin Brewery's Beast Symbol

The Japanese brewery Kirin Company shares its name with a legendary creature. The company mascot is a Chinese mythological beast ("qilin"), commonly described as a single-horned, colorful creature with an amalgamation of other animal parts. The creature now lends its name to a real-life animal; the giraffe.
Kirin Beer has featured the mythological creature as part of its label since 1888 although the the general pose and art was established for the beer label a year later. Fairy Tail manga creator Hiro Mashima drew his version of the drinkmaker's mascot in a video released on May 24. The video was recorded as part of a campaign last year challenging individuals to draw the company's Kirin creature in just one hour.
Mashima reveals in the video that it was the first time in awhile that wasn't drawing using an electronic device.
"I'm drawing in analog for the first time in a long time and I'm very nervous," he said. The manga creator also revealed that the happiest moment in his life is when he made his debut as a manga artist.
Mashima's Fairy Tail manga series follows the adventures of world's most notorious mage guild, Fairy Tail. The manga launched in 2006 and ended last July. The most recent and final anime season based on the manga premiered in Japan on October 7. Crunchyroll and Funimation are streaming the anime with English subtitles. Funimation is also streaming an English dub.
