New Higurashi Visual Revealed During Anime Series Marathon

The streaming site Niconico held a When They Cry - Higurashi anime series marathon on Sunday to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the events in the series. The Higurashi series takes place in the 1980s, however the events of the series go as far back as June 1979. After the stream wrapped, a new visual was shown of the character Rena Ryūgū wielding her nata.

No other new information was shared about the series or the purpose of the visual. Current Higurashi related projects include an upcoming stage play opening next month and an ongoing escape room in Shinjuku.
Doujin game and original creator of the Higurashi series Ryukishi07 revealed in October that the Shin Naku Koro ni and Umineko All in One Package games will be released this summer. Shin Naku Koro ni is a brand new work and Umineko All in One Package is a compilation disc of all previous Umineko games plus a new scenario.
Ryukishi07 is also the writer for Umineko When They Cry, Rose Guns Days, and Harem Royale - When the Game Ends. He wrote the scenario for the Okamikakushi - Masque of the Wolf anime and was one of the scenario writers for the Rewrite game.
