Carbonated Drink 'Match' Inspires School Romance Parody Anime Commercial
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Otsuka Foods' drink "MATCH" sells itself as a refreshing beverage full of vitamins and minerals for teens. The drink is further pushing its appeal to the young adult demographic in a "youthful school anime" titled Mōsō Match Gakuen (lit. Delusion Match School) that premiered on YouTube on May 20.
The anime stars comedian Sōichi Nakaoka and King&Prince idol Sho Hirano. The video is made up of short snippets showing Nakaoka and Hirano is shojo-style situations (perfect for shipping) while also winning the hearts of girls and teachers alike. Each time one of the characters does something cool or romantic, the situation is punctuated by a music cue.
Nakaoka and Hirano have appeared in comedic live-action commercials together, also set in the same school that appears in the anime. In one ad, Nakaoka interrupts and romantic moment for Hirano because...he's a zombie.
