Kaguya-sama, Demon Slayer, Kemurikusa Top Gadget Tsūshin 2019's Anime Buzzwords (So Far)

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Gadget Tsūshin's Anime Ryūkōgo Taishō is a yearly list of the most popular anime-related buzzwords. Last year's top choice was less of a buzzword and more of an inescapable character with Detective Conan: Zero's Executioner's Tōru Amuro. "Amuro's Women," a nod to his female fandom, took second place followed by Pop Team Epic's "Sate wa Anti Dana Ome" (So, you're a hater?) from the anime's seventh episode.

This year is only halfway done but several anime are already leaving a lasting impression. Kaguya-sama: Love is War's phrase "O kawaii koto" ("How cute") is currently in the lead. Kaguya is imagined saying the phrase rather menacingly whenever Miyuki thinks she may have the upper hand.

The next trending phrase is "Aaaah! Nengō gaa! Nengō ga kawatte iru!" uttered by the multi-handed demon Teoni is Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. The phrase is Teoni's response when he asks Tanjirō what year of the Meiji era it currently is only to be told it's now the Taishō era. This enrages Teoni who yells "Aaaah! Nengō gaa! Nengō ga kawatte iru!" (Aahh! The era--The era changed again!")

The third most popular buzzword is "Kemurikusa!", the literal title of TATSUKI's television anime series.

Other trending phrases from Kemono Friends 2, Magical Girl Special Ops Asuka, Star Twinkle Precure, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, Sarazanmai, and Zombie Land Saga could still rise up through the ranks. What series do you think had the most iconic or meme-worthy moment this year?
