Sword Art Online's first eight volumes will receive limited edition 10th anniversary covers drawn by series illustrator abec. The new editions will go on sale in Japanese bookstores from early August. The illustrations will also be on display at Sword Art Online's 10th anniversary exhibit.
In addition, the series will get a short story collection volume, which will go on sale on October 10. The volume compiles four short stories that were originally distributed to those who bought the every Japanese Blu-ray/DVD volume upon the original printing: "The Day Before", "The Day After", "Niji no Hashi" (The Rainbow Bridge), and "Sister's Prayer." "The Day Before" began weekly serialization on the series' 10th anniversary website on Friday. There will be 10 parts to the story in total.
The first volume of the Sword Art Online light novel series debuted in Japan on April 10, 2009. Besides the anime series, Kawahara's novels have inspired a manga adaptation, the Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online spin-off light novel series, anime, and manga, and multiple video games.
Sword Art Online's 10th anniversary exhibit "Sword Art Online: Ex-Chronicle" will take place from August 4 to 18 in the Akiba Square, which is located on the second floor of the UDX building in Akihabara.
